Mama’s Day in Quarantine
2020 in a nutshell…
Kindness is what will get us through.
2020 has been a ‘funny’ year. Unlike anything anyone could have imagined. Here in Parry Sound we have to thank our lucky stars for being on the ‘good’ side of the pandemic. The best part is the amazingly supportive community. Keeping small businesses afloat, sending words of encouragement and support to one another and playing Ding Dong Ditch while pretending to be fairies delivering treats to each others door’s (that’s a long one to explain if you are not familiar.) It hadn’t escaped me that International Women’s Day coincided with daylight savings and we all lost an hour of sleep, or that Mother’s Day 2020 fell on day 3000 of self isolation.
I felt a pull to do something for the individuals who have supported my business, side projects and contribute to my pregnancy and parenting support group. This resulted in purchasing bunches of flowers from a local florist Pardon My Garden and putting together mini bouquets the morning of Mothers Day during a freak May snowstorm. Then convincing my partner to drive me all over Parry Sound, and 30 minutes outside of town… in all directions to deliver the bouquets.
I would never be able to show my appreciation to every person that I have been supported by, but was able to bring a little light to 20 mama’s for Mother’s Day 2020. I then begged for forgiveness from everyone who I was not able to deliver to and hope they still love me. During delivery I decided that I am not cut out to be a delivery person and should just stick to births. Pulling up unannounced to someone’s house no matter your intention 100% feels like breaking the law and gets the adrenaline flowing.
We will see what Mother’s Day 2021 brings, but I can imagine I will stick with an in person gathering or private discount code/sale of some sort. Births are better than deliveries anyways.
